Social Media Resources for Geriatric Information

In writing my blog Ask Donna, I am constantly looking for new sources of information and resources on geriatrics and aging issues.  I came across Dr. Mesko's list of top geriatric social media channels and wanted to share the top 8 with you.

"Top 100 Geriatrics Social Media Channels January 10, 2012Posted by Dr. Bertalan Meskó in Web 2.0, Webicina."
Here is Dr. Mesko's top 8 social media selection for Geriatrics:
  1. GeriPal (blog)  - "objectives are: 1) to create an online community of interdisciplinary providers interested in geriatrics or palliative care; 2) to provide an open forum for the exchange of ideas and disruptive commentary that changes clinical practice and health care policy; and 3) to change the world. We aim to be inclusive. We welcome the perspectives of generalists, specialists, gerontologists, palliative care clinicians, and anyone else interested in care of the elderly or palliative care."
  2. POGOe – Portal of Geriatric Online Education (clinical resource)
  3. Geriatric Nursing (podcast)
  4. CareGiving (community site) -  features  blogs of family caregivers, weekly words of comfort,  free webinars and online support groups.
  5. The American Geriatrics Society Like (Facebook group)
  6. Wen Dombrowski MD (Twitter)
  7. American Geriatrics (Twitter)
  8. Health AGEnda (blog) - dedicated to introducing aging and geriatrics into the broader conversation around health, health care and health policy
Did you know there is a Houston Gerontological Society....check it out at http://hgsociety.org

  1. So good to see more of your contributions to long-term care. Keep up the good work and thanks for the social media connections, as a few of those were new to me. You can always add the ombudsman sites for those in the nursing homes or assisted livings in Harris County. www.facebook.com/LTCOmbudsmen and www.twitter.com/TheLTCOmbudsman All the best to you and yours!
