105 Year old ....Inspirational Story

There was a recent article in the RanchNews www.yourranchnews.com about Lillian Cox who is 105 and living at the Hamptons at Meadow Place.  She is quoted as saying "I tell people don't sit around doing nothing and to get up and do something." She has her own Wikipedia page that talks about being the oldest driver at 104 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lillian_Cox

Sharon Wills writes in her article "The Importance of Socialization" http://agingsuite.com/2010/03/the-importance-of-socialization-for-senior-citizens/ that it provides the following:
*  Gives you a sense of belonging
*  Keeps mental illness away
*  Helps you keep relevant
*  Puts you in a good frame of mind

We all need to take time to visit with friends, socialize, have fun and play.  Susan Cain writes http://www.thepowerofintroverts.com/2011/02/07/when-does-socializing-make-you-happier/
"A famous study answers this question. Researcher William Fleeson and his colleagues tracked a group of people, every three hours for two weeks, recording how they’d been acting and feeling during each chunk of time. They found that those who’d acted “talkative” and “assertive” — even if they were introverts — were more likely to report feeling positive emotions such as excitement and enthusiasm. Everyone feels happier when they socialize, concluded the researchers – introverts included."

So, we can all learn from Lillian Cox and her 105 years of wisdom.  Keeping active is key to longevity, happiness and just plain feeling good.  Take a moment today to call a friend (yes, the good old fashion pick up the phone and hear a human voice type of communication), send a card to a long distant relative or start a friendly conversation with a stranger while you are waiting in line somewhere.  Smile and make another person's day!

Have a great day!
