Great resource for visually-challenged people, previously known as Taping for the Blind is now called Sight into Sound! www.sightintosound.org. Sight into Sound is for all people with visual impairment or for those who are unable to hold a book or turn pages due to physical disabilities. Many seniors I talk with miss reading a local paper but find magnification of the print too tiring on their eyes. This service provides a radio receiver so they can have broadcast of all the news and magazines brought into their home. It is a free service and a great way to keep a senior interested in all that is happening!

They have more than 200 volunteers averaging over 18,000 hours per year to read local newspapers and magazines for their programs. There are more than 3,500 radio receivers currently on loan with broadcast range in 18 counties in Texas.
“A Brief History - Sight into Sound (then called Taping for the Blind) was founded in 1967 to read material not available through other sources onto standard audio cassettes in our custom recording division. In 1978, Houston Taping for the Blind Radio (HTBR), now called Sight into Sound Radio, a radio reading service, signed on the air. Sight into Sound Radio broadcasts 24 hours daily. Sight into Sound Radio offers the Houston Chronicle and The Wall Street Journal daily, plus several dozen popular magazines and best-selling books are read on the air.
In January 1993, Sight into Sound began a new service: Description for the Blind which is the art of talking pictorially. Volunteers provide audio descriptions of visual elements of theater performances, IMAX movies, museum exhibits, television programs and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.”
